Tools of the
Trade
Most witches cast
a circle in which to work. This may take the form of
physical casting of water, earth and representation of
fire and air. In times of yore substances such as flour
or a mark in the ground with a stick were often used.
This was because of the need to be quick in your work to
avoid discovery.
Today’s
wiccans may choose simple
tools and garb or may feel able to work their
magick with more
elaborate tools, some of these may have been presented to
them upon being initiated. Witches may choose to work sky-clad
(naked) if appropriate or dressed in a robe (plus
cloak, if outdoors).
A warm woollen cloak is a good choice for cooler days.
Cloaks may be lightweight, lined or unlined, and
just
fabulously Sexy. Available in velvet and cotton
and a range of colours.

Many choose to
make their own pentacle or again may purchase a readymade
one.
Stone Pentacles are available in both working size and a
smaller travelling
size. Wands
are usually made or given and be simple or works of art.
Witches often have a sword to cast their circle. Amongst
other items used are incense,
tarot
cards, crystals, crystal balls, herbs and essential
oils.
Candles are
frequently used in spells and meditations (known in group
workings as path workings) the colour of the candles varies
depending on what is being done as there are particular
colours associated with different days and the planets
positions known as correspondences.
Candles are used
to symbolize the elements e.g. blue for water, red fire,
yellow air and green earth. Candles are often used too, in magik .
A particular colour will be chosen for its
properties.
There are numerous
books
on the Craft which range from advice for the
beginner to advanced literature. Books are available with
readymade spells, witches recipes, and occult associated
subjects such as astrology.
